Why With Love, Lily?

I think one of the greatest downfalls of my generation is the demise of the handwritten letter. I’ve always loved handwritten letters. In fact, I save every single one of them. From the “I’m sorry” letter from my older sister after a fight that ended in tear marks on her spray tan, to the “you looked too cozy to wake but have a good summer” letter from my college roommate, and even the “Happy 13th birthday, we can’t believe you’re a teenager” letter from my parents, which includes a printed up pre-teen photo of me (I’ll spare you.)

My favorite letter of all, though, is a Valentine’s Day letter from my Dad — who passed away just six months after he signed it. “You'll always be mine,” it says, signed “K Flood - DAD”, like he wanted me to have his signature forever.

All this to say, letters mean a lot to me. No matter the occasion, a handwritten token of appreciation, love or acknowledgement can really turn a day around.

So, consider this a collection of handwritten letters from me, Lily, to you, the reluctant reader.

Whether it be a restaurant review, recap of a red carpet, or word vomit of my thoughts, I promise it will always be with love.
